In 2002, a lot of vendors decided they should try to push 802.11a wireless Ethernet products – supposedly the latest and greatest thing in wireless networking.  

Unfortunately for them, at the same time the 802.11g  was in development and should probably eventually overtake both the 802.11b and the 802.11a models.  The best idea is to recommend wireless Ethernet that supports all the standards:  802.11b; 802.11a; 802.11g.

Because you are an IT consultant, you should know that wireless Ethernet is a great chance for you to grow and improve your business.  But because there are a lot of already-installed 802.11b products and most 802.11a products are not compatible with the “b” products, you will have trouble if you work with an 802.11a standard at the moment.  

The Main Idea about Wireless Ethernet

Wireless Ethernet will probably take over wired services (CAT 5) eventually as the main small business networking standard.  But it’s not clear yet when or how this will happen, so computer consultants should still take advantage of wireless Ethernet as a true business opportunity.

Kaseya, a worldwide company that provides IT software for solution providers and corporate IT organizations recently was awarded the 2007 CRN Editors’ Choice Award.  Even though the Dutch company is relatively new, it has been recognized as being outstanding in its market.

Some clients may not have the appropriate type of sample computer contracts.  You need to figure out how to know when someone is interested in long-term agreements.  

Screen Your Candidates

When you set up sales calls, you need to ask the right questions to find out if your prospects are good candidates for sample computer contracts or not.  If you don’t think they want to work with you, they will not be good candidates for long-term relationships.

Computer business Microsoft finally decided to give its new small business server bundle “Centro” an official name.  The product is set to ship by the end of 2008 and will be available for testing early next year.

The new product from the leading computer business will be called Windows Essential Business Server and is designed for companies with 25 to 250 computers.  It essentially involves a bundled install of many different Microsoft server products.

By Microsoft’s estimates, there are 1.2 million businesses that fit into this category throughout the world, and many of them need sophisticated IT set-ups.  As technology gets more complicated, many small businesses have infrastructures that resemble those of a lot of enterprises.  

The new computer business product will have a Standard Edition and a Premium Edition, but both will be based on Windows Server 2008.  The Standard Edition of the suite will involve Exchange Server 2007 for messaging, Forefront Security for Exchange, System Center Essentials for management and Internet Security and Acceleration Server for firewalling and security.  The Premium Edition will have all those features plus the next version of SQL Server.

According to the computer business, companies can buy all these products today.  But the Windows Essential Business Server cuts costs because the bundle is cheaper than buying everything “a la carte” and also easier to install.  One license will deal with all products together.

The management console is going to also be easier to deal with, and companies like CA, Citrix, Full Armor, Symantec and others have designed add-ins so they can have centrally-managed products.

Computer business Lenovo Group, Ltd. Recently reported it had experienced a net profit increase this past year of 177 percent in the third quarter.  This soaring profit for the computer business is thought to be due to its global demand for particularly laptop computers.  

Computer business Lenovo acquired IBM’s PC business for $1.25 billion a few years ago, but had yet to switch completely to its own Lenovo brand from IBM.  Because of the recent unexpectedly high profits, according to Lenovo’s CEO William Amelio, the computer business will switch entirely to the Lenovo brand two years ahead of time.

Lenovo is China’s Number 1 computer business and ranks third in the world.  Its profit posted was a net profit of $105.26 million in the second quarter ending September 30.  A month earlier, its net profit was $37.89 million.  Experts had predicted just $88 million for the computer business.
